What Chelsea Paid for Nicolas Jackson
At the end of the 2022/23 season, Nicolas Jackson made a significant impact in La Liga. With just three goals in the first 30 games, he finished the season with 12 goals and four assists in 16 starts. His outstanding performance caught Chelsea’s eye, leading them to sign him as a replacement for Kai Havertz, who moved to Arsenal.
Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal for £30 million, signing an eight-year contract with a weekly salary of £65k, according to Capology.
Nicolas Jackson’s Value in 2024
Initially, Jackson struggled to adapt to the Premier League’s pace, scoring just twice in his first nine matches. However, he showcased his talent with a hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur on November 6th and continued to impress by scoring against Manchester City in the following game. His consistent performance earned him a regular spot in the starting lineup.
Throughout the season, Jackson, praised as “extraordinary” by football scout Jacek Kulig, played 31 league matches, primarily as a center forward, scoring 14 goals and providing five assists. This made him the second-highest goal contributor in the squad. His impressive form has significantly increased his market value.
Market Value Surge
According to CIES Football Observatory, Jackson is now valued at £67 million, making him one of Chelsea’s most valuable players. He ranks just behind Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez and is on par with Moises Caicedo. Compared to Olise’s £60 million asking price, Jackson’s value is slightly higher, despite Olise being one of the top Premier League players last season with ten goals and six assists in 14 starts.
Jackson is not only one of the most valuable strikers in England but also holds the title of the joint highest-valued African player in the Premier League, alongside Mohammed Kudus of West Ham. At just 22 years old, Jackson has shown immense promise, and if he continues to perform, his value is expected to rise further. Chelsea deserves great credit for acquiring Jackson last summer, proving to be a brilliant investment for the club.
