Chelsea winger Pedro Neto started for Portugal in their 3-1 victory over Poland on Saturday. While Neto didn’t manage to score, his overall performance was impressive and likely pleased his manager.
A Solid Showing from Neto
Neto was strong in attack, completing all four of his take-ons during the game. His dribbling skills were on full display, and he’ll now be hoping to secure a starting spot when Chelsea face Liverpool after the international break.
Meanwhile, Noni Madueke has been Chelsea’s preferred choice on the right flank, scoring in his last appearance against Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea Fans React to Neto’s Display Against Poland
Chelsea fans were quick to praise Neto’s performance against Poland. On social media, reactions were positive:
- @CFC_Silvaa said: “Neto is really good.”
- @CFCMillz posted: “Pedro Neto is cooking.”
- @Cfc_ComrLegend added: “Wow, Pedro Neto, I’m impressed.”
Despite only making two Premier League starts this season, Neto is showing glimpses of his potential under manager Enzo Maresca. And with a long campaign ahead, there’s still plenty of time for the winger to make his mark.
Neto’s Future at Chelsea and Portugal
At just 24, Pedro Neto’s best years are still ahead of him, which bodes well for both Chelsea and Portugal. The main concern is keeping him fit, as injuries have been a problem in the past. However, if he can stay injury-free, Neto has the potential to become a key player for both club and country.
Neto is a dangerous winger who excels at carrying the ball forward. According to FBref, he ranks in the 96th percentile for progressive carries among players in his position over the past year, further highlighting his attacking threat.
Why Neto Isn’t Starting at Chelsea
Although Neto isn’t starting regularly for Chelsea at the moment, it’s not due to a lack of ability. Noni Madueke’s excellent form on the right flank has kept him out of the team. Madueke is enjoying one of the best runs of his career right now, which has made it difficult for Neto to break into the starting XI.
Tony Cascarino has suggested that Madueke could be deployed as a striker, opening up a spot for Neto on the right. However, with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku both in great form, that change is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
In the meantime, Neto will have to remain patient and take his chances when they come. If he continues performing like he did for Portugal, a regular starting spot for Chelsea may not be too far away.
