Chelsea Eyeing Michael Olise in Potential Swap Deal
Chelsea are reportedly considering trading some of their fringe players to acquire Crystal Palace star Michael Olise. It’s claimed that the Blues have initiated discussions with their Premier League rivals to sign the winger this summer.
Olise is believed to have a complicated release clause in his Palace contract. The Eagles, however, prefer a cash deal around £60 million for their valuable asset rather than a player exchange.
Potential Players for a Swap Deal
If Chelsea manage to include players in the deal, here are five who could benefit Palace.
Noni Madueke
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea is open to swapping players for Olise. Noni Madueke would be the ideal replacement at Stamford Bridge. Interestingly, Madueke spent some of his early years at Palace’s academy before moving to Tottenham at age 12.
At 22, Madueke is a talented left-footed attacker capable of linking up with other forwards. His profile is almost identical to Olise’s, making him a perfect fit for Palace.
Omari Hutchinson
Another potential candidate is Omari Hutchinson. Although his Premier League experience is limited to a 22-minute appearance, he shone on loan at Ipswich last season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in their promotion campaign.
Palace brought Olise in from Reading in 2021 after a stellar season in the Championship. Hutchinson, 20, emerged as a top talent at Arsenal before moving to Chelsea two years ago and will look to build on his second-division experience.
Ian Maatsen
Tyrick Mitchell is currently Palace’s only recognized first-team left-back. Mitchell, a twice-capped England international, played nearly every match for Palace last season.
Adding competition for Mitchell this summer is likely, and Ian Maatsen could be the best option. Palace’s head coach Oliver Glasner uses high and wide wing-backs in his 3-4-3 system, a role Maatsen would excel in.
David Datro Fofana
Jean-Philippe Mateta is set to be Palace’s main striker next season, assuming they fend off interest from French clubs. Mateta scored 13 goals in 13 games under Glasner, finishing the season with 19 goals overall. With interest in Odsonne Edouard from other clubs, notably Celtic, a loan move for David Datro Fofana to Selhurst Park could be a great step in his development after a positive year at relegated Burnley.
Trevoh Chalobah
Express Sport reported in December that Palace were interested in Trevoh Chalobah. Although Chelsea kept the versatile defender, who played a significant role under Mauricio Pochettino in the second half of the season, they may need to sell him this summer due to profit and sustainability regulations. The 24-year-old, raised in South London’s Lambeth borough, would be a solid addition to Palace’s back three, especially if Marc Guehi leaves.
