The difficulty Chelsea is currently facing, or at least one of them is that when they have 18/19/20-year-old superstars, they can be loaned out to teams, but you put their growth in someone else’s hands.
Our aim is to provide avenues for our young superstars to play for Chelsea while giving them meaningful playing time, and in my opinion, the best way to achieve that is through a club in a fiercely competitive European league.
There has previously been talking of interest in Portugal, Belgium, France, and Brazil, and now Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard reveals that negotiations are taking on to purchase a team in Portugal.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes is said to have been contacted about potential clubs for the Chelsea owners to buy, including Portimonense, who are fourth in the Primeira Liga.
Santos in Brazil and the French club Sochaux both declined Chelsea’s request, but they were interested in another team.
According to Ed Aarons of The Guardian, Chelsea made a last-minute offer to purchase Lyon in September despite investor John Textor’s agreement to do so in June.
Tom Glick, the new president of business at Chelsea, has been charged with finding teams to join the Blues’ multi-club network.

Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, the club’s new owners, supported him, saying of Tom: “Tom is a tremendous addition to Chelsea FC and will promote our long-term goals for the club.”
“He has the knowledge and credentials to raise our major international standing and assist lead our resolve to strengthen the club via investments in squad additions, infrastructure, technology, the youth academy, and the women’s team,” said club president David Beckham.
