Chelsea’s Bold Swap Deal Proposal to Everton Falls Through Amid Transfer Window Moves
Chelsea has reportedly made a bold move in the transfer market, proposing a swap deal to Everton as they seek to make late signings before the window closes. This comes after their primary target, Victor Osimhen, chose a lucrative contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli over a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Miss Out on Osimhen
Victor Osimhen, who has been at the top of Chelsea’s transfer wish list, has decided to sign a three-year contract with Al-Ahli, earning around £33 million per year. With this major blow to Chelsea’s plans ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, the club has been forced to look elsewhere for striking options.
Interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Chelsea has now turned their attention to Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. According to a report from The Times, Chelsea expressed interest in the striker, who is entering the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.
As part of their approach, Chelsea proposed a swap deal involving David Datro Fofana, who had an underwhelming loan spell at Burnley last season. However, Everton reportedly declined the offer due to a significant disparity in the valuations of the two players.
Deal Breakdown
Chelsea valued Calvert-Lewin at approximately £10 million, potentially rising to £12.5 million—comparable to the fee Liverpool paid for Federico Chiesa, who was also in the final year of his contract at Juventus. However, Everton was not interested in the deal, possibly due to their higher valuation of Calvert-Lewin.
Calvert-Lewin has been a key player for Everton over his eight years at the club, and despite rumors of a big move, including interest from Newcastle United, he appears set to remain at Goodison Park for now. The 27-year-old made 32 league appearances last season, contributing directly to nine goals.
David Datro Fofana’s Future
David Datro Fofana, who joined Chelsea from Norwegian side Molde in January 2023 for a fee between £8-10 million, has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, making just four appearances. With the failed swap deal, Fofana continues to be linked with a move away from Chelsea, with Sunderland reportedly showing interest.
Osimhen’s Final Decision
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Victor Osimhen has made his final decision regarding his future, opting to join Al-Ahli despite Chelsea’s interest. According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli will receive around €80 million (£67.3m) plus add-ons for the transfer. Osimhen’s contract with Al-Ahli is expected to include a release clause, although the details remain undisclosed. He is set to undergo a medical with the Saudi club on Friday.
