Defender Ian Maatsen is allegedly close to joining Burnley on loan due to the necessity to send them out so they may get experience.
According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, the young Dutchman will join Burnley on loan for the upcoming season in the Championship. Maatsen apparently attracted interest from all around Europe, but new Burnley manager Vincent Kompany persuaded him to stay.
Although there is still paperwork to be done, both clubs have scheduled for the 20-year-old to fly to the North on Thursday to undergo a medical. The transfer is anticipated to be finished by this weekend.
Maatsen spent the 2020 season on loan with Charlton Athletic after joining Chelsea in 2018. He then went on loan to Coventry City last season, where he made 40 appearances and scored three goals.
Although the 20-year-old can play wherever along the backline, Kompany plans to use him at left-back. This expertise may help Maatsen in the future if he wants to join a team as talented as Chelsea.
