Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, has come under fire for his inexplicable decision to fire Thomas Tuchel early this season despite spending more than £275 million on players.
Chelsea’s season has gotten off to a bad start, and after 13 games, we are seventh in the Premier League standings.
Graham Potter’s affiliation with Chelsea is a problem, Carragher said, according to The Overlap.
“What I mean by this is that the history of Chelsea tells you that this doesn’t happen when we talk about Erik Ten Hag and Mikel Arteta coming in, getting time to implement his plans, and receiving transfer windows to bring players out.
“Will the new owner experience it? It is difficult to understand why he fired a manager so early in the season, especially one who had led the team to a Champions League victory.
“I’ve always thought it was strange to fire Thomas Tuchel.
“I’m thrilled for Graham Potter and to have an English manager in such a significant role, but he’s never been in that situation before, managing a major team and overseeing the Champions League.
“He has effectively turned things around in the Champions League and advanced them.
The last two or three games have gone the other way, and it almost feels like it has blown up in his face. In his head, he believes he has had a terrific start at Chelsea.
“You can’t believe what you’re witnessing when you look at where Chelsea was last season and the £275 million that was spent on the team this summer.
“After spending that much money, their final product was so much worse [than last season] versus Brighton and Arsenal. It feels weird.”
