Brilliant work, Graham Potter how he fixed Thomas Tuchel’s final big mistake at Chelsea
The new Chelsea manager has attempted to resolve several concerns left by his predecessor, having the chance to do so during his first week in charge.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! It didn’t take long for new Chelsea owners Boehly-Clearlake to alter their person in command of the players, with Thomas Tuchel being fired roughly 100 days into their reign. They moved immediately to hire Graham Potter as head coach, citing their idea of how the team should be.
“I am extremely delighted to be partnering with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the dynamic group of players, as well as developing a team and culture that our fantastic supporters can be proud of,” said the club’s president. The new job was announced immediately after his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion.
His first task will be to get support for his ideas as he did with the Seagulls during his three seasons in command. Football at the highest level seldom allows for such a luxury, with each game serving as a microcosm of a season in contrast to other teams owing to the expectation of success.
To do this, Potter may attempt to capitalize on getting the players on board initially, with his major qualification in emotional intelligence serving as another tool in his arsenal. According to the Athletic, this is exactly where the Englishman began his first week in command.
It reports that talks with players were calm but candid, with Potter reflecting on their abilities and roles in his wider objectives. They were positively accepted by veteran players as well as those who were alleged to have been “frozen out” by the previous management.
That was one of Tuchel’s final major gaffes before the summer, after expressing his displeasure with several of the club’s peripheral players who were underperforming. While some were able to depart, others remained and had to rely on the German coach.
This put him in a position where he was asking most of those players who had previously been warned they may go, making it impossible for them to return. This appears to have been rectified under Potter, with the new head coach promising a fresh start for everyone involved.
