Chelsea finds itself facing a striker crisis ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round match against Brighton on Saturday. Once again, the club’s failure to sign a proven number nine in the last five transfer windows is coming back to haunt them.
Despite ongoing struggles in the forward line, Chelsea opted not to bring in a new striker in January. They were linked with several options, including Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but ultimately, no deal materialized.
Now, that decision may prove costly, as one of their few available strikers is set to miss the upcoming game due to injury—possibly for an extended period.
Marc Guiu Ruled Out, Concerns Over Jackson
According to The Athletic, Marc Guiu has suffered an abductor injury and will be unavailable for Saturday’s match against Brighton. Chelsea conducted tests over the past few days, with the young forward still experiencing pain in his upper leg. While the club hopes the injury isn’t serious, he will sit out as a precaution, with further scans planned to assess the extent of the issue.
Adding to the concern, Nicolas Jackson has yet to be seen in any training pictures this week. The Senegalese forward picked up a knock during Monday night’s win over West Ham but managed to play through the discomfort. His absence from training has fueled speculation that he, too, may be struggling with an injury.
Missed Opportunity in the Transfer Window?
With Christopher Nkunku also not being a natural striker, Chelsea’s attacking options are looking worryingly thin. Their failure to sign a traditional number nine could once again come back to bite them—especially if Jackson is unavailable alongside Guiu.
As they prepare for Saturday’s crucial FA Cup clash, the Blues will be hoping for good news on Jackson. Otherwise, their lack of depth in the striker position could become a major problem in the weeks ahead.
