Todd Boehly is reportedly looking for a candidate who is similar to Graham Potter as he continues his search for the new Chelsea sporting director.
The American is looking for qualities such as the ability to collaborate with everyone behind the scenes, according to The Athletic.
Since taking over as owner of Chelsea, Boehly has not been afraid to make big decisions, with many key members of the board departing as part of the old regime’s demise.
However, the most significant decision of his tenure has been the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, despite the fact that only six league games have been played this season.
The decision was made following an embarrassing 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb, but it has been claimed that this did not influence the owner’s decision.
Sporting Director to be like Potter
Boehly was quick to appoint Potter, revealing that he had done his research on the Englishman since the Marc Cucurella transfer was finalized.
His obvious desire to hire someone with the qualities Potter possesses lends credence to The Athletic’s report, which states that any new sporting director must share the same qualities as the new man in charge.
Christoph Freund of RB Salzburg appears to be the favorite for the job, and his comments following the match between the two sides didn’t exactly put those rumors to rest.
Michael Edwards, who has excelled in his role at Liverpool, was the initial candidate they pushed for.
Despite being very impressed by the upcoming project at Chelsea, Edwards’ desire to take some time away from the game forced him to decline the move for the time being.
The decision is likely to be made in the coming weeks, given Boehly’s desire to hire someone before the World Cup begins in November.
