Player Exodus Continues at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have announced that yet another player from Enzo Maresca’s so-called “bomb squad” has left the club following the close of the transfer window. According to the Daily Mail, Maresca had exiled 13 first-team players to train separately from the senior squad, with the Blues starting the season with an overwhelming 43 players.
Chelsea’s Desperate Need to Trim the Squad
With Premier League regulations allowing clubs to register only 25 players, Chelsea were under pressure to offload those deemed surplus to requirements. The club scrambled to secure moves for several players before the window shut, including Raheem Sterling, who joined Arsenal on loan, and Armando Broja, who has been loaned out to Everton for the rest of the season.
Earlier in the week, Chelsea also managed to recoup £25 million from Romelu Lukaku’s sale to Napoli, while goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga joined Bournemouth on a temporary deal.
Trevoh Chalobah Joins Crystal Palace on Loan
Now, another exiled player has departed Stamford Bridge. Defender Trevoh Chalobah has signed a season-long loan deal with Crystal Palace, with no option for the Eagles to make the move permanent next summer. Chalobah, who rose through Chelsea’s academy ranks, was initially banished from the first team at the start of pre-season. However, unlike some of his peers, he retained his squad number, 14.
Chalobah’s move to Selhurst Park will give him the opportunity to play regular first-team football, something he has been missing at Chelsea.
In a statement, Chelsea said, “Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has completed a season-long loan move to Crystal Palace. Having previously been on loan at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient, Trevoh will continue his development at Palace. We look forward to monitoring and supporting Trevoh throughout his loan spell. Good luck, Trev!”
Busy Deadline Day for Crystal Palace
Chalobah’s arrival was part of a flurry of activity at Crystal Palace on deadline day. The club, managed by Oliver Glasner, also secured the signings of Eddie Nketiah and Maxence Lacroix on permanent deals from Arsenal and Wolfsburg, respectively. Additionally, goalkeeper Matt Turner was brought in on loan as backup to Dean Henderson, following Sam Johnstone’s transfer to Wolves.
With these additions, Palace have bolstered their squad for the season ahead, and Chalobah will be keen to make an impact during his loan spell.
