Chelsea’s Busy Transfer Window Under Enzo Maresca
With Enzo Maresca now managing Chelsea, the club is not wasting any time getting their transfer business sorted.
Early Signings and Youth Investments
Tosin Adarabioyo has already joined from Fulham on a free transfer, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has followed Maresca to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City. Young talents like Omari Kellyman, Estevao Willian, Marc Guiu, and Renato Veiga have also made their way to West London. Owner Todd Boehly continues to focus on youth investments, which has paid off with players like Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto excelling in the first team.
Ongoing Recruitment Efforts
Despite the recent signings, Boehly is still looking to strengthen the squad, with several names in the mix for potential moves to Maresca’s side.
The Hunt for a New Attacker
After losing out on Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, Chelsea is working hard to sign a new forward to push them back to the top of the Premier League. Jonathan David, primarily a central striker who can also play on the wings, is one target. Despite a stellar season in Ligue 1 with 23 goals or assists in 34 appearances, David could be available for as little as £25m this summer due to his contract expiring in June 2025.
Targeting Kaoru Mitoma
Chelsea is also eyeing another winger, with Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma being a key target. According to Ben Jacobs on the London is Blue podcast, via The Chelsea Chronicle, Chelsea has had internal discussions about signing the Japanese international, though no official move has been made yet. Mitoma has been impressive for the Seagulls since his £2.5m move from Kawasaki Frontale in August 2021, featuring 67 times and scoring 13 goals. It is unclear how much he would cost, but he would be a valuable addition to Maresca’s forward line.
Conor Gallagher’s Rising Value
Academy graduate Conor Gallagher has rapidly developed at Stamford Bridge, securing a first-team spot and even wearing the captain’s armband multiple times last season. The 24-year-old started 37 games under former boss Mauricio Pochettino in the 2023/24 season, earning him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024. His consistent performances have seen his market value rise to £43.2m, according to Football Transfers, making him more valuable than Mitoma, who is valued at £18.2m.
Gallagher, described as “elite” by scout EBL, has attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United this summer. However, Maresca will undoubtedly want to keep the midfielder, who, despite not being the flashiest player, always gives his all and does the hard work that others might avoid. Gallagher’s rise in value is a testament to his dedication and could see him play a significant role in Maresca’s rebuild of Chelsea in the 2024/25 season.
