‘Amazing’ Chelsea Star is now on the verge of joining new club – journalist
Chelsea is reportedly on the brink of allowing Kepa Arrizabalaga to finalize a move to Real Madrid, as indicated by German journalist Florian Plettenberg.
According to Plettenberg’s Twitter post, Kepa Arrizabalaga, aged 28, is in the final stages of transferring to the Spanish powerhouse, Real Madrid. This move is said to be happening despite interest from another contender, Bayern Munich.
The report suggests that Kepa is being lined up to replace Real Madrid’s primary goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, who has sustained a long-term injury during the pre-season.
Although much of the transfer attention at Chelsea has been directed toward potential new signings, there are also ongoing discussions regarding player departures.
Plettenberg mentioned on Twitter the previous day that Bayern Munich felt that Kepa was inclined to join them, as they aimed to secure a loan deal with an option to buy. However, the most recent developments on Saturday point toward a move to Madrid. It remains to be seen whether Kepa’s potential transfer to the Spanish capital will be on a loan or permanent basis.
Despite his past struggles, Chelsea’s head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has shown appreciation for Kepa’s skills. Earlier this summer, during pre-season, Pochettino described him as a “fantastic keeper,” as quoted by Ben Jacobs on Twitter.
If this transfer goes through, Kepa Arrizabalaga could be leaving Chelsea after five years in the club. This would open the door for new Chelsea signing Robert Sanchez to potentially become the team’s number one goalkeeper.
It’s noteworthy that BBC Sport reported Thibaut Courtois’ potential absence for the majority of the 2023/24 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee. This situation could provide Kepa with a unique opportunity to regain his peak form and prove himself on the big stage if he moves to Real Madrid.
