The relationship between Cole Palmer and Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be quite strong at the moment. Pochettino has shown trust in the young player by giving him an extended run in the team, and Palmer has reciprocated that trust with some outstanding performances. There should be a sense of mutual respect and camaraderie between the two, which makes the incident on Saturday all the more amusing.
Palmer played a pivotal role in helping Chelsea establish a 2-0 lead against Arsenal. However, when Arsenal managed to equalize late in the game, Palmer’s frustration got the best of him. In his own words, as reported on the Chelsea official website, he explained the situation: “When they scored their second goal, I was getting a drink. I went to throw the bottle away, as you do, but didn’t look. I just saw it loop slowly and hit the gaffer. I said sorry to him and apologized properly after the game. Hopefully, he won’t drop me for that!”
It’s likely that Pochettino will understand the momentary lapse in frustration and appreciate the subsequent apology. Both Palmer and Pochettino are likely to be more concerned about the points dropped in the game than this light-hearted mishap.
