Chelsea midfielder Omari Hutchinson, currently on loan at Championship side Ipswich Town, has expressed no regrets about leaving Arsenal’s academy for Chelsea during the 2021/22 season. Despite criticism for having made only two first-team appearances for the Blues, the 20-year-old believes that Chelsea offers him more future opportunities than Arsenal.
Having been with Arsenal from the age of 11, Hutchinson progressed to playing for the under-23s but decided to make the challenging move to Chelsea. Despite the difficulty in leaving Arsenal, Hutchinson emphasized that he felt loved there, and while the anticipated first-team breakthrough did not materialize, he remains optimistic about his decision.
Reece James, a key figure in Chelsea’s defense, played a pivotal role in influencing Hutchinson’s move. Hutchinson shared, “I spoke to the people at Chelsea, saw the pathway they had for me, knew the staff there, and some of the players. I already knew Reece James, and he told me to come. Everyone gave Chelsea a positive review.”
Believing in the potential success of his decision, Hutchinson added, “I believe it has worked out so far. Reece has been on the journey that I want to go on — from the academy, to a loan in the Championship, to the first team.” The midfielder looks forward to following a similar trajectory and making his mark at Chelsea in the future.
