It’s been a long time coming for Chelsea’s potential owner, who has been in attendance at Stamford Bridge during the Blues’ recent hot streak. He did get to watch Tuchel’s team score three points, even if they were meaningless.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Boehly, on this occasion, managed to extend his legs beyond the box from which he had been watching games and joined Chelsea’s squad on the pitch. It should be emphasized, however, that he did not appear to be alone, since fellow investors Hansjörg Wyss, Jose Feliciano, and Behdad Eghbali, owners of majority stakeholder Clearlake Capital, were all there.
As the Chelsea players emerged from the tunnel ahead of their lap of honor, it looked that Boehly was still the star of the show. Cesar Azpilicueta was the first to take the field, seeming to properly hug Boehly before heading out towards the coaching staff. The rest of the team went out to shake hands with the man who may become the club’s next owner.
Farewells to Antonio Rudiger and others
When Antonio Rudiger’s number was called and a surge of applause erupted over Stamford Bridge, it was a moving moment. Each player Rudiger passed on his way off the field thanked him, with Reece James, in particular, rushing in for an embrace before Rudiger walked away.
Andreas Christensen, who is also out of contract, is another player who might make his farewell appearance for the club. The Danish international was not in the Blues’ matchday roster, although he was present at Stamford Bridge.
On the lap of honor, Christensen, dressed in a Chelsea polo shirt, took a final glance around the stadium and engaged in some play fighting with Christian Pulisic. The 26-year-old did not have a storybook ending to his time at the club, but he did gain some closure on Sunday afternoon.
Azpilicueta, on the other hand, has an unclear goodbye. Following the contest, the Spaniard took the lead and waved to fans as he walked around the stadium. It’s unclear whether this was only a token of goodwill or a last farewell.
Mike Dean was one of the people to whom the Chelsea captain said his goodbyes. Following the final whistle, the Chelsea veteran could be seen smiling and joking with the referee and giving Dean a hearty embrace before departing.
The Premier League’s past
Chelsea became the first club in Premier League history to play a whole season without falling down at halftime, according to Opta. There may not be any trophies for that one, but it’s a sign of the platform Chelsea has been able to establish and how far they still have to go. However, this is a foundation to build on.
Barkley became the 21st different player to score for the Blues, breaking the club mark for most scorers in a single season. Chelsea was not able to offer any of its teenagers a Premier League minute this season, something some supporters may expect to alter next season. However, Harvey Vale and Lewis Hall’s performances in cup events should not be overlooked.
Message from Harvey Vale
Chelsea announced Sam Kerr as Chelsea Women’s Player of the Season and Harvey Vale as Chelsea Academy Player of the Season ahead of the encounter at Stamford Bridge. The 18-year-old winger was on hand to accept the award and even managed to speak a few words into the microphone. He said that he wanted to win the prize in the same way that others had. Billy Gilmour, Conor Gallagher, Reece James, and Mason Mount are among them.
