Billy Gilmour reportedly received advice from Noel Whelan to look for a long-term move away from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! It is quite easy to forget that the club already has a number of great stars that are strongly associated with moves away from the Blues this summer, with all of the players being linked with Chelsea.
Gilmour is due to speak with Thomas Tuchel after switching from the first team’s preseason trip to the Under-23 group. The general consensus is that Gilmour will leave the team during the transfer window.
Whelan has pushed the young midfielder to look for a long-term move as a necessary first step toward establishing a prosperous career. Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, has consistently expressed his desire to sign him on loan in the coming days.
He said to Ewan Kingsbury of Football Insider: “I don’t see where he’s heading with Chelsea.”
It says something that this will be his second loan in two seasons. The writing is on the wall because he is 21 and playing for Scotland rather than Chelsea.
“The club doesn’t need him. He needs to make an effort to relocate permanently and establish himself at that club.
“Only then will you be able to really start building your profession and experiencing a sense of place.
It’s quite simple to wind up simply receiving volleys from Chelsea each season and returning on loan each summer.
“Having a club pay you to play somewhere else can’t be a good feeling.”
