After Christopher Nkunku’s secret medical with Chelsea, Graham Potter breaks silence on his result
Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig underwent a “secret medical” with Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but Graham Potter has declined to comment.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club, with Chelsea, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain all expressing interest. The player recently extended his contract with the German team through 2026.
Chelsea made the first significant bid in the summer to secure his services. He has a €60 million release clause that will become active starting next summer.
According to claims made in Germany and confirmed in England, Nkunku underwent a covert medical in Frankfurt before the close of the transfer window in preparation for a prospective transfer next summer.
The fact that a Chelsea orthopedist was present during the cardiological examination put the Blues in a strong position to get his signing, although negotiations are far from over.
The new owners, who are seeking a sporting director and technical director at Stamford Bridge in order to support the 47-year-old, have already assured Potter that they will support him in his search for new employees. Talks over the two posts are now ongoing.
However, Potter was questioned about the Nkunku connections prior to his first Premier League game in charge of Chelsea, which is against Crystal Palace, and his reaction was succinct but stern.
The Chelsea head coach responded to that sort of thing by saying, “My answer is that until it’s a player for us, I don’t really speak about other players. So, no remark.”
Regarding transfers, on Deadline Day, Potter signed Billy Gilmour from the Blues before leaving Brighton for Stamford Bridge.
When Potter soon left the Amex Stadium for the Scotsman’s old team, Gilmour’s luck ran out.
Even though Gilmour will have a new manager, Potter has predicted that the team would still be successful on the south coast.
“I believe the awkward part about it is the timing of my opportunity here so soon after the window closed,” he continued. That’s never a good idea. Of course, I wish him well, but it’s just a fact of life in sports.
He strikes me as a fantastic young man and a really nice guy. We are aware of his skill, so we are crossing our fingers that he will succeed there.
