Jules Kounde is rumored to be on his way to Chelsea from Sevilla.
After losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, Chelsea is in need of replacements at center defense.
The French defender and Chelsea have reportedly reached a personal agreement on a five-year contract, according to the Spanish publication Marca.
Negotiations between the two teams are still going on, although Sevilla is thought to be asking for a sum of around £52 million for its 23-year-old midfielder.
The arrival of Newcastle United, according to some sources, might jeopardize Chelsea’s position in the fight to acquire Kounde.
Newcastle United is reportedly interested in Jules Kounde and prepared to spend big money on new recruits this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
According to reports, the Premier League team with new wealthy owners is prepared to outbid Chelsea by offering Sevilla, which is his release clause, a whopping €90 million.
Although he acknowledged that adding Kounde would be a major positive, former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips said the club erred by letting go of talented defender Fikayo Tomori.
Wright-Phillips explained the Kounde signing to Genting Casino by saying:
Jules Kounde is a young and gifted defender who would be a wonderful addition to Chelsea.
“But Chelsea sold Fikayo Tomori, who is about my age, and I don’t believe he lost the ball much at AC Milan all season. I just wonder why you would go out and purchase a player of my age; why not simply keep the quality you’ve created?”
“After Antonio Rudiger’s departure, Kounde will have large shoes to fill if he joins Chelsea.”
