Chelsea don’t want to offer 23-year-old new contract until they watch Christopher Nkunku play
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea seems to be treading cautiously regarding Conor Gallagher’s potential new contract, as shared by journalist Simon Phillips on his Substack. The decision reportedly hinges on the return and impact of injured players, namely Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia.
Gallagher has emerged as a standout performer at Stamford Bridge this season, carving a niche for himself alongside high-profile midfielders. Despite previous indications of Chelsea’s willingness to sell the 23-year-old in the last transfer window, his exceptional form has prompted a reconsideration.
According to Phillips, Chelsea is in a holding pattern concerning Gallagher’s contract talks. The club is keen on observing the performances of Nkunku and Lavia upon their return to assess their squad dynamics before making a final decision.
Phillips stated, “There hasn’t been any advancements or any very recent talks about the contract, and that’s partly because of what I mentioned above and the club being keen to see what happens when Lavia and Nkunku come back in.”
Mauricio Pochettino has hinted at the imminent return of the duo to first-team training. However, displacing Gallagher, who has become a pivotal player for Chelsea, would require stellar performances. Gallagher’s focus on contributing significantly to Chelsea’s current campaign has understandably taken precedence over contract negotiations.
As the situation unfolds, Chelsea supporters await Nkunku’s potential debut with particular excitement, considering him a marquee addition to the attacking lineup. The decision regarding Gallagher’s contract will likely be influenced by the team’s evolving dynamics and performances in the coming weeks.
