Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea’s promising young talent, Ian Maatsen, is eager to seize the opportunity and make his debut start in the league for the club. Speaking to the Evening Standard, Maatsen expressed his readiness to contribute and support his teammates whenever the chance arises.
Since the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the club manager, Maatsen has garnered significant attention. He stood out as one of the most impressive players during the unbeaten pre-season tour, catching the eye of the Argentine manager.
Despite his strong preseason showing, Maatsen has yet to start a league game this season. Reports even suggested substantial efforts to sell him on deadline day. However, the young Dutchman remained resolute, and his absence from the starting lineup has raised questions.
In an unconventional move, Pochettino deployed Maatsen in a right-attacking role against Brighton, highlighting the manager’s versatility in utilizing the player.
The recent injury to Ben Chilwell could potentially open the door for Maatsen to secure a left-back role in the team. Maatsen has affirmed his preparedness to make a meaningful impact from the start in the Premier League.
He stated, “Yes, of course. We are a team and when I get my opportunity I am always ready to help my teammates, and that’s all I can do. It is good to have pressure. We need to stay calm and it will come in time.”
Maatsen emphasized the importance of believing in themselves, maintaining composure, and focusing on their performance in the Premier League, aiming to replicate their recent display against Brighton.
With another player, Marc Cucurella, also showcasing impressive performances, the competition for roles at left-back could intensify, promising intriguing battles for the position in the upcoming matches.
