Poch explains why Chelsea star Ben Chilwell has been dropped
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The 26-year-old Ben Chilwell, previously expected to have a prominent role in Mauricio Pochettino’s new-look Chelsea side, has seen a reduction in playing time due to the emphasis on integrating Mykhailo Mudryk’s pace and direct running into the starting XI. This has led to Levi Colwill, traditionally a center-back, being deployed at full-back, providing the team with a good balance according to Pochettino. Chilwell, who had a strong performance against Liverpool and a more attack-minded role against Luton Town, has the possibility to play in the upcoming Carabao Cup tie against Brighton. Pochettino mentioned that Chilwell was being used out of position previously, and the current approach aims to utilize the strengths of the team effectively. Thiago Silva’s form was also acknowledged positively, and Pochettino emphasized the importance of a strong defensive line.
‘The way we want to play and the moment we recover some offensive players, he is very good. He is strong, you need a strong defensive line, the data we have, we are one of the best in the league. ‘When you have an offensive player in front sometimes you don’t need an offensive full back.’
