“He should have been sold by now, He as no mission at the club” – people at Chelsea are also frustrated that £175,000-a-week player
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea signed Marc Cucurella from Brighton in August 2022 for a significant fee of £63 million. However, Cucurella has struggled to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge, and he has been left on the bench by manager Mauricio Pochettino in Chelsea’s early Premier League games of the 2023/24 season.
Despite his disappointing debut campaign and lack of playing time in the new season, some people within Chelsea are reportedly frustrated that Cucurella has not been sold yet. Chelsea is keen to offload players like Romelu Lukaku to balance the books.
However, Cucurella’s status as a Chelsea academy graduate means that his sale would not result in a profit for the club, unlike the sale of Lewis Hall to Newcastle, which did generate a profit. Hall’s departure helps Chelsea meet Financial Fair Play guidelines.
Cucurella is currently earning a substantial weekly wage of £175,000, making it challenging for other clubs to match his salary and take him on. Given the high transfer fee and wages, Chelsea may find it difficult to offload Cucurella, and he could remain at the club for the foreseeable future, as his contract runs until 2028.
