Why Chelsea cancel Tyler Adams deal at the last minute
Chelsea reportedly had concerns about the length of time Tyler Adams would need to recover from his hamstring injury, which ultimately led them to pull out of a deal to sign the Leeds United midfielder. This information comes from a report by the Daily Mail.
The decision to back away from the deal seems to have been influenced by Chelsea’s worries that Adams could potentially be sidelined for up to four months due to his injury. Chelsea has been actively seeking to reinforce their midfield after losing several key players in that area, including Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
While the pursuit of Adams has been halted, Chelsea is still focused on strengthening their midfield options before the transfer window closes in September. Their primary target for the position is Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo. It has been reported that Chelsea submitted a £115 million bid for the Ecuadorian midfielder.
In addition, there’s a possibility that Chelsea could secure the signature of Romeo Lavia from Southampton. According to talkSPORT, Chelsea has made a £55 million proposal to acquire Lavia.
Adams could have been a valuable addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, providing defensive midfield capabilities to bolster the team’s midfield presence. However, if Chelsea successfully signs both Caicedo and Lavia, the absence of Adams may not be a significant concern for the team.
The outcome of Chelsea’s pursuits for Caicedo and Lavia will be interesting to observe. If these acquisitions come to fruition, it could potentially transform one of Chelsea’s weaknesses into a strong asset, which would undoubtedly please Manager Mauricio Pochettino.
