‘Hefty sell on’: Chelsea could now be about to receive £18m as player sold by Tuchel moves clubs
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea could potentially receive £18 million following Newcastle’s completed signing of Tino Livramento from Southampton. Thomas Tuchel sold Livramento to Southampton for £5 million in August 2021, but the player’s impressive performances have now earned him a £35 million move to Newcastle, with the possibility of additional add-ons.
While Chelsea missed out on retaining Livramento, it appears that the club negotiated a significant sell-on clause in his transfer deal. According to talkSPORT’s transfer expert Alex Crook, Chelsea’s sell-on clause for Livramento’s future transfer could be as much as 50% of the fee received by Southampton for the player.
In this case, with Livramento’s transfer fee reported to be £35 million, Chelsea’s potential sell-on fee could be around £17.5 million. This unexpected windfall could provide Chelsea with additional funds that might be utilized in ongoing transfer negotiations.
Notably, the extra funds could potentially be used to sweeten the deal in the pursuit of Moises Caicedo from Brighton. Chelsea and Brighton have reportedly been in negotiations over the midfielder, with Chelsea’s most recent bid of £80 million being rejected by Brighton, who are said to be holding out for £100 million. Adding the newfound £17.5 million to their bid might help bridge the gap and facilitate a deal for Caicedo’s transfer to Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen how Chelsea will utilize the additional funds from the sell-on clause, but it could play a role in further strengthening the squad or facilitating other transfer deals before the window closes.
