‘Amazing’ Mauricio Pochettino just did something with Chelsea that hasn’t happened in 12 year
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Mauricio Pochettino can certainly be satisfied with the progress he’s witnessed since taking over as the manager of Chelsea. Under his leadership, the team embarked on a pre-season tour in the United States, participating in the Premier League Summer Series tournament. Notably, all five participating teams had finished above Chelsea in the league standings the previous season.
Impressively, Chelsea emerged as champions of the tournament, securing victories against Brighton and Fulham, and holding Champions League contenders Newcastle United to a hard-fought draw. The team’s successful run in the tournament was complemented by a win against Wrexham and a draw against Borussia Dortmund.
Pochettino’s unbeaten record during these pre-season fixtures is noteworthy. His achievement in guiding Chelsea through an undefeated pre-season campaign is a rare occurrence at the club, a feat that has not been accomplished since 2011. This streak of unbeaten matches under his management distinguishes Pochettino from previous managers like Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte, who were unable to achieve the same during their tenures.
While the quality of opposition in pre-season matches may not mirror the challenges of the upcoming domestic season, the foundation Pochettino has laid through these positive results is indeed promising. Particularly, considering Chelsea’s previous campaign, where they finished in the 12th position in the league standings, this pre-season success is a positive sign for the club’s prospects moving forward.
