This will be followed by matches against Brighton, Newcastle United, and Fulham. Ahead of the summer, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors were tasked with trimming down the squad after ending last season with a 30-man roster.
Several high-profile players have already been moved on, including Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount. N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Cesar Azpilicueta, and David Datro Fofana have also found new clubs.
However, the mass exodus is expected to continue, with Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being told not to report for pre-season training. Pochettino wants them to leave the club before the team’s departure for the United States. Lukaku has reportedly rejected an offer from a Saudi Arabian club and is keen on returning to Serie A. Ziyech had almost secured a move to the Middle East but failed to agree on final terms. The future of Hudson-Odoi and Aubameyang at Chelsea is uncertain, as both players struggled for consistent playing time and impact last season.
