CL club is set to sign £170k-a-week Chelsea player
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Marseille has expressed interest in signing Chelsea’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, according to the Daily Mail. The French club, participating in the Champions League play-off qualifiers, has shown interest in the 34-year-old striker. Aubameyang’s return to Chelsea’s pre-season has been delayed as the club looks to offload him. It is unclear whether his departure would be through a sale or if Chelsea would let him leave for free, similar to Cesar Azpilicueta’s move to Atletico Madrid.
During his debut season at Chelsea, Aubameyang scored three goals in 21 appearances across all competitions. He was frozen out of the starting lineup in the latter part of the campaign, indicating that there is no future for him at the club. New Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino appears to be moving forward with Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson as the first-team strikers for the upcoming season, though there is still time in the transfer window to add another forward.
While it would be preferable for Chelsea to receive a transfer fee for Aubameyang, the priority should be avoiding an oversized squad comprised of players who won’t contribute or aren’t up to the required standard. A return to France, where Aubameyang previously played for Saint-Etienne, could be a suitable move for his career. The Evening Standard reports that Aubameyang is among the players who won’t travel to the United States for the pre-season tour. The hope is that his future can be resolved in the coming weeks.
