Officials: Chelsea have been frustrated with £19m player for ages, he’s now close to leaving
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to The Athletic, officials at Chelsea have been frustrated with Christian Pulisic due to his reluctance to engage in media activities and marketing duties. Pulisic’s lack of enthusiasm for off-pitch responsibilities has irked Chelsea, who had hoped to capitalize on his marketability as a player. As a result, the 24-year-old is now on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea and AC Milan have reportedly agreed on a deal worth £18.8m for Pulisic, and he is expected to join the Italian club on a long-term contract. The report also mentions that Lyon made a bid of €25m (£21.4m) for Pulisic, but he expressed his disinterest in joining the French side.
While Chelsea’s frustration with Pulisic’s media presence is notable, it is important to consider the context. The nickname “Captain America” was created by the media, and if Chelsea had expected Pulisic to embrace that persona, their disappointment may be seen as misplaced. Instead, Chelsea’s concern should focus on the relatively low return of 26 goals from Pulisic in 145 appearances and the £39.2m loss they are taking on their initial investment, especially considering there was a better offer on the table from Lyon.
