Chelsea desperate to free £175,000-a-week player out of the club, he could replace 34-year-old at Tottenham
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to Football Transfers, Chelsea is desperate to offload Marc Cucurella, and there are rumors that he could potentially replace Ivan Perisic at Tottenham Hotspur.
It is reported that Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea head coach, does not intend to use Cucurella in the upcoming season. However, the player wants to stay at Chelsea and has already started pre-season training with the club. Chelsea, on the other hand, would prefer to sell him.
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton in August 2022 for a fee of £62 million and is currently earning £175,000 per week. However, he struggled in the 2022/23 campaign. Tottenham is reportedly interested in offering Cucurella an opportunity, viewing him as a replacement for Ivan Perisic, who is nearing a move to Hajduk Split.
According to the report, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou believes Cucurella could also play as a midfielder alongside Yves Bissouma, possibly in an inverted full-back role.
In our view, Cucurella is unlikely to start ahead of Ben Chilwell under Pochettino, and having a backup option earning £175,000 per week is not feasible for Chelsea. With young talent Lewis Hall available as a potential backup to Chilwell, it is important for Chelsea to find a buyer for Cucurella this summer while his value is still relatively high.
If Cucurella has another difficult season as a left-back, his value may significantly decrease, making it a priority for Pochettino and Chelsea to find him a new club.
