‘He’s my mento, am following is footstep’ – £70m player says he wants to follow in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has expressed his desire to follow in the footsteps of former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by winning the African Footballer of the Year award. Osimhen, who has been in impressive form for Luciano Spalletti’s side, has been linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window. Italian journalist Ciro Venerato had earlier suggested that Arsenal are leading the race to sign the 24-year-old striker. However, Manchester United’s search for a new striker means that the Gunners will face stiff competition for Osimhen’s signature.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Osimhen spoke of his dream to win the African Footballer of the Year award. He said that he had attended the ceremony in 2015 when Aubameyang won the award and that he hoped to win it one day himself. The Nigerian striker, who has scored 25 goals in 29 appearances for Napoli this season, also revealed his desire to play in the Premier League.
While Osimhen would undoubtedly be a great addition to Arsenal’s attacking line-up, it remains unclear whether Mikel Arteta’s side will pursue him during the summer transfer window. The Gunners already have a wealth of attacking options, with Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, and Eddie Nketiah having impressed in the Brazilian’s absence.
