According to reports from Fichajes via the Mirror, German club Bayern Munich are considering making a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mendy’s current contract with the Blues is set to expire in 2025, but the Senegalese international rejected a new deal offered by the club last year, citing the wage offer as ‘disrespectful’. This has led to speculation that he will leave the club after the end of this season, especially since he has been relegated to the number two position in the squad with Kepa Arrizabalaga being preferred over him.
Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, who was Mendy’s manager during his successful run at Chelsea, is reportedly keen on bringing the 31-year-old to the German capital. However, recent reports from the Daily Mail suggest that incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino might also be interested in signing a new goalkeeper in the summer, adding to the doubts surrounding Mendy and Kepa’s future at the club.
With the relationship between Mendy and Chelsea currently at an unrepairable stage, it seems likely that the two parties will part ways. Should Mendy leave, the Blues may look to sign a new number one goalkeeper, with Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa being among the names linked with the club.
In any case, it will be interesting to see where Mendy ends up next, and whether he can replicate his impressive form at Bayern Munich, should the move materialize.
