Newcastle’s absence of Nick Pope as goalkeeper against Manchester United will not be their only setback
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Newcastle, who currently have the top defence in the Premier League, are experiencing a goalkeeping crisis as a result of Nick Pope’s suspension.
Because punditry has become so simplistic, cheerleaders frequently appear on the guest list. Everyone is aware of Alan Shearer’s political leanings, but it seems like he is obligated by contract to bring it up anytime he comes on Match of the Day.
In order to evaluate Nick Pope’s red card on Saturday, everyone was prepared for a string quartet. Following a purposeful denial of a goalscoring opportunity in Newcastle’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool, the goalie is now suspended from the League Cup final. Pope recognised it as a red. Eddie Howe understood it. On Twitter, several conspiracy theorists don’t accept it.
“But one thing, Gary Lineker cried, “he’s receiving a one-game suspension, it’s a separate tournament, he’s going to miss the cup final now. It looks out of proportion.” Lineker became so irritated that he coined a phrase.
“Joelinton had already received nine yellow cards; if he had received one more, he would have been suspended from the next two games, but not the Carabao Cup final. How come? Please allow him to participate in this year’s cup final! He has excelled this season.”
Lineker, keep going!” Shearer yelled.
“No, I’m serious!”
In fact, Newcastle avoided punishment for Bruno Guimaraes’ dismissal from the second leg of their semifinal match against Southampton. Guimaraes missed three Premier League games due to the aggressive behaviour and subsequent three-match suspension, but he will be available for Sunday’s championship game at Wembley.
Howe misread Newcastle’s situation with the goalies. Martin Dubravka is ineligible for Newcastle because both of his outings while on loan at Manchester United were in the League Cup, however he is eligible for a winners’ medal if Manchester United triumphs. When Howe permitted the seasoned backup goalkeeper Karl Darlow to join Hull on deadline day last month, he understood that.
30 days passed between Dubravka’s recall on New Year’s Day and Darlow’s departure. If Darlow had lasted, he would have at the very least been a substitute versus United. A management must anticipate the best while planning for the worst. The 2006 League Cup final saw Wigan goalkeeper Mike Pollitt removed after 14 minutes.
So, Loris Karius, who last played on February 28, 2021, is about to be used by Newcastle. Karius’s disastrous performance in the 2018 Champions League final, in which his attempted roll-out was deflected in by Karim Benzema and he fumbled a pass from Gareth Bale, effectively put an end to his career.
Newcastle reportedly didn’t plan to use Karius after signing him. A foot injury to Darlow led to his arrival as a free agent in September, over a fortnight after the summer transfer market closed.
