Since joining Chelsea from Inter Milan in the summer, ROMELU LUKAKU has had a disappointing season.
According to sources, Romelu Lukaku intends to meet with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season to discuss the club’s intentions for the coming season. The Belgian striker returned to Chelsea from Inter Milan in a club-record deal at the end of last summer, but has struggled to make an impression in west London and is rumored to be considering a move away from the club in the next transfer season.
Lukaku scored two goals in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Wolves on Saturday, although he was making his first Premier League start in four games after losing his starting spot to Kai Havertz in recent months. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 28-year-old has been linked with a transfer away from Stamford Bridge as a result of his poor form this season, and is going to undertake crunch meetings with Tuchel in the near future to address his position.
Lukaku is reportedly planning to chat with Tuchel in order to obtain a better idea of Chelsea’s plans for him ahead of next season. He is expected to play regularly for the Blues in his second season back at the club, and will be seeking for guarantees about his playing time before the transfer market reopens at the conclusion of this season.
If Tuchel is unable to guarantee Lukaku a first-choice position at Chelsea in the coming weeks, it remains to be seen if he will choose for a move elsewhere. He has lately been connected with a spectacular return to Inter, who are thought to be eager on bringing him back to the San Siro when the bidding begins, as well as AC Milan and even Newcastle United.
Lukaku has only scored seven Premier League goals in 24 games since the start of the season, but he was effective as part of an offensive partnership with Lautaro Martinez during his time at Inter. In order to rejoin the Italian giants in the near future, he would almost certainly have to take a pay reduction, while Chelsea will struggle to recoup the £97.5 million transfer price they paid for his services less than a year ago.
In a shocking interview with Sky Italy in December, the former Manchester United and Everton attacker fuelled rumors of a possible Inter comeback by expressing his love for the club and pledging to return one day. However, Arsenal legend Paul Merson recently said that Chelsea will be unable to offload the 28-year-old this summer due to their current off-field problems.
