With the German league’s second-tier team, Paderborn, Humphreys will continue to grow.
It’s interesting that Benjamin Weber, the new sporting director at Paderborn and one of Thomas Tuchel’s subordinates from his time at Chelsea, is responsible for the agreement.
Humphreys was also interested in being loaned to League One and Championship teams, but both he and Chelsea’s new technical director Christopher Vivell thought Paderborn was the best place for him to continue developing.
In the event that Paderborn is promoted to Germany’s top division, the loan deal can be extended for the upcoming campaign. Paderborn is currently sixth in the 2. Bundesliga.
Humphreys has a deal with Chelsea that runs through June 2024 with a one-year extension option.
