Chelsea scouting reports: The Blues are ready for a large-scale player exodus this summer as their past mistakes cost them money in the market.
Graham Potter faces a difficult selection challenge because Chelsea has a whole starting XI of forwards on the books. There is a backlog of players that can fill in across the forward line, aside from the recent spate of injuries that are steadily lowering the number of available players.
Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic are both sidelined, while Armando Borja won’t be back until the following year. Conor Gallagher joined Mason Mount at Anfield to help Kai Havertz, who is still used as a makeshift attacker while out of position. The German is a difficult case to solve on his own.
There were several possibilities for Potter even before the winter window. Four of the six signed players have now increased the battle for spots. Mykhailo Mudryk is more of an orthodox Wideman, whilst David Datro Fofana is a center forward. Joao Felix is a versatile and fluid forward. Winger on the right side, Noni Madueke.
Everything suggests that a huge exodus is about to occur. Todd Boehly and the company wanted to start it during the summer, but they had trouble moving players. While Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be permitted to leave this window, Pulisic was made available to clubs across Europe, and it is anticipated that interest in him will last into 2023.
As Kai Havertz continues to struggle with consistency, Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in him. Romelu Lukaku is anticipated to return to Inter Milan on loan next season. Callum Hudson-Odoi will need to fight tenaciously to keep his position.
However, Hakim Ziyech is currently the player that is most interesting to watch. Since returning from the World Cup, he has started five straight games and displayed an improvement in form, despite the fact that his performance hasn’t changed significantly. The Moroccan, who was lobbying for a transfer last summer, might leave the club this month.
When his teammates are healthy, he isn’t a first-choice player, but for Potter, he has recently played a key role. Despite this, it is difficult to consider his performances as much more than a tryout for his upcoming club.
But something will have to give in order to make that move. Chelsea wanted to sell him, but so far, only loan offers have been made. Newcastle and AC Milan were both interested in him, while Manchester United offered an unexpected exit as well.
Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Jose Mourinho’s Roma has been in touch and has spoken to Ziyech’s agents recently. The problem is that Ziyech has a large salary and so far doesn’t seem prepared to reduce it, even for a little transfer fee or loan.
Chelsea has struggled with this problem recently when trying to let go of underperforming talents. Transfers have been delayed and postponed due to the emphasis on earning a return, or at most a modest loss, while players are aging, not playing, and still demanding big salaries. Ziyech is no exception.
It’s possible that what prevents players from leaving SW6 in 2023 and how the Blues handle Ziyech could influence how other players are treated as well.
