A victory was desperately needed on a day when Chelsea honoured the memory of club legend Gianluca Vialli. In order to achieve that, Potter decided to make a number of changes, but two of them were essentially forced upon him when Denis Zakaria was forced to withdraw due to injury and Joao Felix was suspended.
Conor Gallagher’s pass to an open Lewis Hall at the back post for Potter’s team should have given them the lead early on. Unfortunately, Vicente Guaita missed the Chelsea academy graduate’s attempt, leaving the scoreless at halftime.

Chelsea then introduced their newest addition. Mykhailo Mudryk’s transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk was announced during the first half, and the forward was introduced to the crowd at Stamford Bridge while sporting a Ukrainian flag.

However, Chelsea still needed to score in the second half. Kai Havertz was there to head the Blues into a much-needed lead shortly after the hour mark when Gallagher and Hakim Ziyech exchanged passes, the latter whipping a cross into the penalty box.
It was one that Potter’s team managed to hold onto despite late pressure. The complete post-game remarks of Chelsea’s head coach will be available soon. Below, there will be live updates.
