Chelsea’s defensive problems appeared to be fixed under Tuchel, but they have already surrendered eight goals in their previous four games. On Saturday, the problem resurfaced as Wolves scored two late goals to earn a draw at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel runs the risk of following in Lampard’s footsteps if he cannot reverse the course at the back. Due to the Englishman’s struggles in putting up a cohesive defense, Blues great Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink dubbed his tenure “going nowhere.”
“It’s a major step, but you don’t want to end up as a squad that just reacts after the fact.” You want to form a group that can accomplish it right now. They had no choice but to respond in this way. It was always about getting that first goal as early as possible and then making them scared. After a 3-3 tie against West Brom in September 2020, Hasselbaink commented, “They got it.”

Apart from that, we were in charge of the game. We had some opportunities, but the issue was how much character we’d have in the second half. I’ve always believed we could achieve it, but two points are still gone. It would be foolish of me to argue that we can make three errors, set a mountain for ourselves to climb, and be content with that.
