Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Blues have revealed that arrangements for a new ownership group have been finalized, with Boehly’s consortium ready to take over the club. According to a statement on the club’s website: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm that a new ownership group led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter, and Hansjoerg Wyss has reached an agreement to buy the club.
“£2.5 billion of the overall investment will be used to buy the Club’s shares, with the revenues going into a frozen UK bank account with the goal of donating 100% to philanthropic causes, according to Roman Abramovich. The funds will need to be moved from the frozen UK bank account with the permission of the UK government.” In addition, the prospective new owners would spend an additional £1.75 billion in the Club’s benefit. This includes money for the Chelsea Foundation as well as improvements at Stamford Bridge, the Academy, the Women’s Team, and Kingsmeadow. The transaction is scheduled to close in late May, pending all regulatory clearances. At that time, more information will be supplied.”
Boehly, the CEO of Eldridge Industries, was in London on Friday night before the club made its statement at 01.37 a.m. on Saturday. Now, according to the Daily Mail, he’ll be at Stamford Bridge today for the Blues’ critical Premier League encounter against Wolves, despite the fact that he’s still in London.
Chelsea has battled its way back into the Champions League competition following a disappointing defeat against relegation-threatened Everton last weekend, but the players should take heart from the fact that the club’s takeover troubles appear to be nearing a resolution.
