‘Don’t understand’ BBC pundit confused why 24 years old Chelsea player is been paid
BBC analyst Garth Crooks has attacked Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella in his weekly essay.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Despite Chelsea earning their seventh straight victory, the Spaniard had a rough afternoon at Villa Park.
Filling in at centre back did not appear to be the player’s natural position, who the Blues paid £62 million for in the summer.
Yesterday’s match against Steven Gerrard’s team saw the Blues put to the test. They were counting on Kepa Arrizabalaga to deliver one of his best games ever.
According to Crooks, his colleague in front did not assist him and may not be good enough to play for the club.
Crooks slams Cucurella
He remarked, “After taking the lead against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the first half, Chelsea made work of it. I’m not really sure what Marc Cucurella is doing at the club, let alone on the field at Villa Park.
Graham Potter, who traded the player when managing Brighton, has since acquired him at Chelsea, although it is clear that the Spaniard is not a top-notch defender.
“Thiago Silva, on the other hand, is not just a world-class defender but also a coach for Trevoh Chalobah and Kalidou Koulibaly. The Brazilian is head and shoulders above everyone in the Chelsea back line and is calm, collected, and polished.
Despite yesterday’s disappointing performance, Cucurella has had a good start at Stamford Bridge.
He and Ben Chilwell are engaged in a contentious competition for the full-back position. But the ability to play in the middle should benefit the Spain international.
In order for the Blues to make it six straight victories under Graham Potter, he might be benched for the midweek match against Brentford due to his poor performance over the weekend.
