Everton defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Goodison Park thanks to Richarlison’s early second-half goal. However, that was not the only topic of discussion throughout the game, as an incident in the 73rd minute also created controversy among Chelsea fans.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In the 73rd minute, the commentator reported that Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and left-back Marcos Alonso had a go at Antonio Rudiger for booting the ball out for a throw-in to allow Richarlison to receive treatment in the Chelsea penalty area.
They had every right to be upset since they were losing and Everton missed an opportunity to kick the ball out for a throw-in. They chose to continue attacking, forcing Mendy to make a save.
The commentator confirmed that the incident that resulted in Richarlison’s injury in Chelsea’s penalty box was investigated behind the scenes by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), but that there was no evidence of foul play and that it was the Everton striker who kicked Reece James when both players went for the ball.
Mendy and Alonso were likely aware of Richarlison’s attempt to buy time, and Everton’s refusal to kick out the ball after seeing him laying on the ground justified their wrath.
Chelsea, on the other hand, will be in severe danger of being drawn into a top-four competition that seemed inconceivable only a few weeks ago, if Arsenal closes the deficit to three points after beating West Ham.
