Roberto Di Matteo, a former player for Chelsea, has gone out and expressed his joy at Chelsea’s ability to acquire Kalidou Koulibaly in a deal.

After months of rumors, they were able to bring the powerhouse to the Premier League in a £40 million deal, sparking rumors that Koulibaly was the player the club was looking for.
Koulibaly’s contract expires at the conclusion of the next season, therefore the Italians had no choice but to sell, which is the only reason Chelsea was able to complete a transfer of the big man. Over the past several seasons, Koulibaly has made a name for himself as one of the league’s best central defenders.
Di Matteo believes the Senegalese defender will benefit the Blues this season after making his debut for Chelsea in the preseason defeat to Arsenal. He had the lone good performance in an otherwise disappointing evening.
Di Matteo stated on the team website: “Koulibaly is a top-class player. Being Italian, I watch Italian football quite a bit.
He will provide the toughness that the Premier League needs, but he also possesses the technical skill and tactical awareness that you see from Italian teams in Serie A.
So, in my opinion, Chelsea would be wise to sign him. I believe we are acquiring a quality player who is in the height of his powers, thus I only see good things ahead.
Chelsea may not have had the ideal preseason, but it doesn’t matter; come the start of the new season, Chelsea will be prepared.
Koulibaly is a fantastic acquisition, but the team must make sure to add a few more defenders to the side.
