Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Chelsea will sell Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In an interview with TalkSport, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor said Thomas Tuchel has to recruit a proven striker and dismiss Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech because they are “not good enough” (via Express).
Chelsea acquired Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling on Wednesday, but Agbonlahor believes Tuchel still needs to add more punch. These comments follow Romelu Lukaku’s loan move to Inter Milan last month and Chelsea’s subsequent failure to buy a dependable striker to take his place.
Agbonlahor believes that Tuchel should prioritize finding a new frontman. He believes that Chelsea’s lack of a star striker is why they are behind clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur. He goes on to say that the Blues would want to get rid of Pulisic and Ziyech because they are not good enough.
“Sterling’s arrival will assure you of goals and assists. But don’t they need that striker? Look at Tottenham, Manchester City, and Liverpool; they all now have elite strikers. They’ll probably try to get rid of Ziyech and Pulisic because I don’t think they’re good enough.
Perhaps the former Villa player is correct. After Lukaku went, Timo Werner is the only senior pure striker still on the Chelsea squad. Despite having returned from their loan assignments, Michy Batshuayi and Armando Broja’s futures are still uncertain. A top-tier striker is required, and Tuchel is aware of this.
Pulisic left Borussia Dortmund for Chelsea in January 2019, however he spent the rest of the year on loan at Dortmund. The 23-year-old has been exceedingly inconsistent in front of goal ever since. Tuchel employed him in a number of capacities last season, all of which resulted in the same result. The American international only managed eight goals and five assists in 38 games in all competitions with the Blues.
Ziyech hasn’t been able to match his Ajax Amsterdam performance since relocating to Stamford Bridge. The Moroccan player joined our team in 2020, but his performance has been hit and miss throughout his time with us. The 29-year-old was able to score eight goals and contribute six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions during the previous season. To loan him to the San Siro, the club is discussing with AC Milan.
Tottenham, according to Agbonlahor, are currently more equipped than Chelsea to compete with City and Liverpool. If the team doesn’t add any more players, it could be tough to admit that he is correct. Tuchel should understand that the squad can’t depend on Sterling to score goals every single week.
“So they definitely need some more firepower, definitely. Because at the moment I’d say Spurs are probably better suited now to challenge the top two than Chelsea for me.”
