After moving to Stamford Bridge from Athletic Bilbao a few years ago, the 27-year-old was Chelsea’s first choice for two seasons. However, a string of mistakes and form issues caused him to be replaced by Edouard Mendy in the 2020–21 season.
Only 14 appearances in that season and 15 in the previous one were made by the Spain international.
In an interview with MARCA, Kepa said, “I’m anxious to start, ambitious, and ready to have fun, but most of all, to play more. I want to play more games on the field.
“The coach ultimately makes the decision. He needs as many reasons as you can muster for him to select you. I like working out, giving each session my all, taking care of myself, and being prepared to help out when the coach needs it.
I now play for Chelsea, but it is obvious to me that I want to play more because in the last year or so when I have played, I have put up amazing performances.
