Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing De Ligt to replace Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, according to talkSPORT.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Rudiger has joined Real Madrid after refusing to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge, while Christensen is poised to follow Rudiger to Spain and join Barcelona.
Chelsea will need to bring in new central defenders as a result of the aforementioned, with De Ligt appearing to be an option.
However, after signing for Juventus for £67.5 million in 2019, he is unlikely to be cheap.
What did O’Rourke say to Chelsea about De Ligt?
If the Blues sign the former Ajax midfielder this summer, O’Rourke believes he will be a valuable addition.
“It’d be a major acquisition for Chelsea,” the journalist told GIVEMESPORT. We all know Chelsea’s centre-back difficulties for next season, with Rudiger and Christensen both departing, so bringing in someone like De Ligt would be a huge plus.”
Would De Ligt be a beneficial addition to Chelsea’s squad?
Certainly, especially in light of what happened to Rudiger and Christensen. They are in desperate need of new centre-backs, and De Ligt is undoubtedly one of the finest available.
Jamie Carragher, a Sky Sports commentator and former Liverpool defender, said about the Netherlands international a few years ago: “To be captain of Ajax and with them reaching to where they got to this season, he’s definitely a leader and top class.”
“He possesses the physical characteristics as well. I used to play that position as a youngster, and if you’re not completely developed physically, you may make mistakes by getting thrown around by someone who is too strong or too quick for you. But De Ligt is a guy, so that’s not an issue for him.”
De Ligt won 2.9 aerial duels on average in Juventus’ Serie A campaign in 2012/13, the most in Massimiliano Allegri’s side (via WhoScored).
If the 22-year-old had been a Chelsea player, he would have been the club’s leading scorer. With an average of 2.6, Christensen was their best performer in that category.
When all of the above is considered, there is no doubt that De Ligt would be an excellent addition to Tuchel’s squad if a deal can be reached this summer.
