Enzo Maresca Calls Out Chelsea Players After Disastrous 3-0 Loss to Brighton
Chelsea’s Struggles Continue With Heavy Defeat
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca did not hold back in his criticism after his team’s 3-0 defeat against Brighton at the Amex Stadium. Once flying high in second place back in December, the Blues have now slipped to fourth after a series of underwhelming performances.
Maresca Labels It Chelsea’s Worst Performance Under His Tenure
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Maresca expressed deep frustration over his side’s display. He admitted that this was their worst showing since he took charge. While addressing Sky Sports (via ESPN), he said:
“My frustration was about everything. We feel sorry for the fans that came. In the position that we are, arriving with 14 games to go, we need to do much better. We are in a moment when we feel we can concede easily and struggle to score. I think before the goal, they didn’t have some chances. There are many things we can do better.”
Players’ Performance Under Fire
Maresca did not hold back in his assessment, suggesting that the players’ lackluster display raises questions about their commitment and readiness to compete at this level.
“I can’t think of how my players play. I really don’t understand—no intensity, and the end product is bad.”
Despite the disappointing loss, Maresca emphasized the need for unity and resilience.
“Now is the moment we need to stick together. I always feel pressure, but this was the worst performance since I arrived. We are still fourth and still in the race to finish in Europe.”
Next Challenge: Aston Villa
Chelsea will look to bounce back when they take on Aston Villa in the Premier League next Saturday (February 22). Fans will be hoping for a stronger response from the squad as they fight to regain form and confidence.
