Jackson Struggles, Guiu Suffers Late Knock
Nicolas Jackson started for Chelsea today but had a tough time on the pitch. The striker appeared to struggle physically, twice going down clutching the back of his left leg in the first half. He managed just five more minutes after the break before being substituted.
His replacement, young Marc Guiu, showed plenty of energy but had an unfortunate moment in stoppage time. He slipped in the box and seemed to tweak his groin, leaving fans seriously concerned. With the transfer window set to close in just an hour, supporters were left wondering—had Chelsea just lost both of their strikers at the worst possible moment?
Maresca’s Press Conference Brings Relief
Fortunately, Enzo Maresca’s post-match press conference provided some much-needed reassurance.
“Nico and Marc, to be honest, they both said to me that they’re okay, so hopefully neither of them are injured,” Maresca confirmed, easing fears of a long-term problem.
He also addressed speculation about Chelsea making a last-minute move in the transfer window:
“To be honest, I was just focused on the game and I’m still thinking about the game. The sporting directors are here, the chairman, and we sit and see all the things that happen. But everything that happened was planned—from me, from the club, altogether.”
How Would Chelsea Cope Without Their Strikers?
If Jackson and Guiu were to miss Saturday’s FA Cup clash against Brighton, Maresca already has some alternative plans in mind:
“We have Tyrique, who is a very good profile, and we can probably find some different solutions. In the last half an hour, we played with Marc Cucurella higher, with Christopher Nkunku inside. We’ll try to find different solutions.”
While it wouldn’t be an ideal situation—especially for Guiu, who deserved another chance after his strong display—Chelsea has enough attacking depth to adjust.
And, of course, fans would love to see young Tyrique George get more minutes on the pitch!
