Dream Felix upgrade: Chelsea still keen to sign £60m star on deadline day
Across the country, football fans wait with bated breath on deadline day—a day when anything can happen. Excitement and anxiety run high, and for Chelsea supporters, anticipation is building for a major development.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Surprisingly, Enzo Maresca has yet to welcome a new signing this month. Instead, technical director Paul Winstanley and his team have prioritized departures, trimming the squad. Much hinges on these exits. For instance, João Félix’s immediate future could determine whether one of the Premier League’s brightest young talents arrives at Stamford Bridge before the deadline.
The Portuguese forward has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, but Unai Emery’s side has already secured Marcus Rashford and is on the verge of signing Marco Asensio. That said, a move for Félix is still on the table, with AC Milan also expressing interest.
Chelsea Targeting a Dream Replacement for Félix
Chelsea has been linked with Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho this month. However, the Argentine talent remains at Old Trafford as the clock ticks down. Ruben Amorim is working on rebuilding United’s squad and may have to part with key players like Garnacho to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and fund new signings.
While no official bid has been made, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed to GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea could make a last-minute move for the 20-year-old, valued at approximately £60 million. It’s possible that Todd Boehly is waiting for Félix to leave before launching an official bid.
What Alejandro Garnacho Would Bring to Chelsea
Chelsea needs more firepower from the wings. Despite scoring 45 goals in 23 Premier League matches this season under Maresca, only Noni Madueke has contributed more than two goals (with seven). While Cole Palmer has been exceptional, he operates more centrally, highlighting the need for a natural winger.
Is Garnacho the right man? His current stats—13 goals and seven assists in 80 Premier League appearances—may not be eye-catching, but his potential is undeniable. Over the past year, he ranks in the top 2% of wingers across Europe’s top five leagues for shots taken (3.83 per 90 minutes) and in the top 6% for progressive carries (5.84 per 90), according to FBref.
Though this season has been challenging for him, he showcased his talent last year with ten goals for Manchester United. Football analyst Statman Dave has praised his “absolutely electric” ability, calling him “brilliant on the left wing.” Chelsea already has several attacking options, but Garnacho fits the mold as a natural left-sided winger.
This move would also be a clear upgrade on Félix, who has struggled since rejoining Chelsea permanently for £46 million. While he has impressed in the UEFA Conference League, Maresca has only given him three Premier League starts. Despite scoring off the bench in his second Chelsea debut against Wolves, he has provided just one assist since.
With multiple European clubs interested in taking Félix on loan, Chelsea might explore a similar approach for Garnacho. His pace and dynamism could significantly boost the team, offering a much-needed spark on the left flank.
Félix possesses great technique and clever movement, but his playing style falls between Palmer’s and Garnacho’s. If Chelsea were to secure the young Argentine, it could unlock his immense potential and push the club closer to the top tier of English and European football once again.
