‘The time has come’… Jason Cundy urges Enzo Maresca to drop Chelsea player with ‘so much noise’ around him
Chelsea Legend Jason Cundy Urges Maresca to Drop Robert Sanchez

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cundy urged Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca to make the bold decision of dropping Sanchez, arguing that the 27-year-old’s mistakes are becoming too frequent and costly.
“Personally, I would take him (Sanchez) out of the firing line. I think the time has come because there is so much noise. Maresca is being asked about this in every press conference—whether it’s pre-match or post-match. The errors are coming, and they’re costly.”
Sanchez has been under scrutiny throughout the 2024/25 season, and statistical analysis confirms that he has been responsible for more errors leading to goals than any other Premier League goalkeeper this campaign.
Jody Morris: “Sanchez Hasn’t Proven Himself at Chelsea”
Former Chelsea assistant coach Jody Morris also weighed in on the situation, emphasizing that while Sanchez has the potential to improve, he has not yet shown the level required to be the club’s long-term No.1.
“It’s not the first time we’ve had this conversation about Sanchez, and it won’t be the last. Make no mistake about it—Sanchez knows he should be performing at a much higher level. Right now, he hasn’t proven he’s good enough to be Chelsea’s goalkeeper.”
Paul Merson Calls for Chelsea to Sign a New Goalkeeper
Following Sanchez’s latest mistake in Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, former Arsenal star Paul Merson has called for the club to bring in a new goalkeeper.
His latest blunder—rushing off his line and allowing Erling Haaland to score a simple chip—has intensified demands for Filip Jorgensen to be given a chance between the posts.
Will Chelsea Finally Drop Sanchez?
Despite Maresca previously backing his goalkeeper, the increasing backlash from fans and pundits may force him to reconsider his stance. If Chelsea want to turn their season around, benching Sanchez could be the first step toward defensive stability.
