Real Madrid now want to offer ‘fantastic’ player to Chelsea in swap deal for Enzo Fernandez
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea’s summer signing Renato Veiga is set to leave the club on loan for the remainder of the season in search of more playing time. The Portuguese international will join Juventus on a temporary deal without an option to buy, allowing him to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign.
Earlier in January, reports indicated that Veiga had agreed on personal terms with Borussia Dortmund, expressing a desire to leave due to limited opportunities at Chelsea. However, the situation evolved, with the club reluctant to let go of one of their most versatile players so soon after his arrival.
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s head coach, left Veiga out of the matchday squad against Wolves, citing it as a “technical decision” despite not having another left-back on the bench. It’s understood Veiga’s frustration stems from a lack of chances to play in his preferred position, center-back.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal late last night, stating that Juventus agreed to pay a €5 million loan fee. Veiga is expected to play as a center-back for the Serie A side, fulfilling his request for more opportunities in his favored role. Romano noted, “Juventus agree deal with Chelsea to sign Renato Veiga. Here we go! Loan deal for €5m loan fee until June, no buy option clause — and then player back to Chelsea at the end of June for the Club World Cup.”
Chelsea were initially thrilled to secure Veiga’s services during the summer, viewing him as a dependable option across multiple positions. At the time of his signing, Veiga described himself as a versatile, intelligent, and aggressive player comfortable in various roles, including left-back, center-back, and defensive midfield.
Despite his earlier claims of not having a preferred position, the 2025 season has shown a shift in his stance. Veiga will now have the opportunity to prove his worth in Italy, spending the next six months focused on his role in central defense.
